Blast off for an intergalactic mission at Eureka! this summer

Eureka
Visitors to Eureka! The National Children’s Museum will be able to find out about space exploration and the science behind it this summer with Blast Off! – a cosmic programme of special events and activities celebrating International Year of Astronomy 2009.

The highlight of the programme, which runs at the museum in Halifax, West Yorkshire from Saturday 18 July to Monday 31 August, will be Robots Explore the Universe – a new and exciting temporary exhibit which lets children step into the shoes of real space scientists.

Robots Explore the Universe will give children from age five to 11 the opportunity to meet space scientists and engineers as they enter the space dome and transform themselves into space explorers through role play and costume. Their mission will be to investigate the surface of a new and mysterious planet and to find out about extraterrestrial life using robotic vehicles.

Robots Explore the Universe has been made possible thanks to the Ingenious grant from the Royal Academy of Engineering which aims to help engineers communicate effectively with the public.

Blast Off! will include indoor and outdoor activities for children of all ages with giant rocket making using recycled cardboard, spacehopper racing around the Eureka! Park and rocket launching workshops using simple household equipment from paper straws to film canisters.
