Boom Blocks
An arcade block puzzle with a soundtrack that reacts to how well you play. Drag the three pieces onto the 8ร8 board, fill whole rows or columns to blast them, and chain clears together for big combo multipliers. The game ends when none of your pieces fit.
How to play
- Drag a piece from the tray and drop it on the board. Pieces cannot be rotated.
- Fill a complete row or column to blast it. Several lines can go at once.
- Place all three pieces and you get three new ones.
- Pieces that do not fit anywhere turn grey. When all your remaining pieces are grey, the game is over.
Combo streaks
Every placement that clears at least one line adds 1 to your combo. After a clear you have three placements to clear again, shown by the dots under the combo counter. Miss all three and the streak resets. The music builds as your combo grows: an arpeggio and claps join at ร2, and the lead melody at ร4.
When the board gets tight, its edge pulses red and the music goes muffled. That is your cue to look for a clear.
Scoring
| Action | Points |
|---|---|
| Placing a piece | 1 per block |
| Lines cleared in one placement | 10, 30, 60, 100, 150, 210 for 1 to 6 lines |
| Combo | Line points ร your combo |
| Clearing the whole board | +300 ร combo |
Tips
- Keep a 3ร3 hole open. The big square and the five-long bars need room.
- Build at the edges. Fill sides and corners first and keep the middle free.
- Don't leave single-cell gaps. Only the single block can fill them.
- Plan all three pieces. Place the hardest one first.
- Set up double clears. Two nearly full lines that cross can go with one piece, and that is worth three times a single line.
Controls
Drag with a finger or mouse. On a phone the piece floats above your finger so you can see where it lands. On a keyboard, press 1 2 3 to pick a piece, the arrow keys to move it, Enter to place and Esc to cancel. M turns the music on and off and P pauses.
Questions
Is Boom Blocks free?
Yes. Boom Blocks is free to play with no sign-up and no ads, and the whole game is included. The optional Puzzle Pack, a one-time $2.99 upgrade, adds premium themes, boards and card backs across all five Yuzool puzzle games: Blockfit, Boom Blocks, Merge Drop, Nonograms and Solitaire. Gameplay stays exactly the same.
Is my game saved?
Yes. Your current game, best score, stats and sound settings are kept in this browser on this device. Leave the tab and the game pauses itself.
Why is there no sound?
Browsers only allow sound after you tap the page, so the music starts when you press Play. On an iPhone, check the silent switch too.
How is this different from Blockfit?
Blockfit is the calm, quiet version. Boom Blocks is the loud one, with music, explosions and combo streaks.
