Hold any bank, ID or library card flat on the screen in the top corner, and resize the drawn card until it matches exactly.
Put one end of the thing you're measuring on the zero line, then drag the other handle to its far end. Drag the zero line too, to measure between two marks. Calibration is saved on this device.

How loud is that?
Nothing is recorded: the page reads the microphone's level and keeps only the numbers. For a closer reading, set the offset against a real sound level meter in Settings.
About the spirit level
A spirit level is a straight bar with a curved glass vial of liquid and a bubble. Stand your phone on its long edge on top of a frame or shelf, and this page turns into the same thing: a tube vial whose bubble centres when the edge is level, with the angle in degrees above it.
Stand it on its short edge to check that a post or door frame is upright. Lay it flat and it switches to a round bubble level for surfaces.
Computers have no tilt sensor, so on a laptop or desktop the level shows "No tilt sensor here". Open this page on your phone for the level. The ruler and protractor work on a computer right now.
How to use it
Open this page on your phone. On an iPhone, tap Allow for motion access.
Stand the phone on its long edge on the top of the frame or shelf, screen facing you.
Adjust until the bubble sits between the two lines and the reading shows 0.0°. The stage turns green when it is level.
Hold the phone against the side of a post or door frame to check it is vertical.
Good for
Hanging pictures, mirrors and TVs straight
Putting up a shelf or curtain pole
Checking a fence post or door frame is upright
Lining up tiles or a splashback row
A phone or a real spirit level?
A spirit level's length is its strength: a 60 cm or 1 m bar averages out small bumps and shows a tiny slope over a long run. A phone is about 15 cm long, so it suits frames, small shelves and quick checks. For a long shelf or a worktop, lay a straight batten along it and stand the phone on that.
The vertical plumb line view is part of Bubble Level Pro; the edge level, surface level and calibration are free.
Questions
How do I use my phone as a spirit level?
Stand it on its long edge on the thing you want to level. The tube vial appears with the angle in degrees; adjust until the bubble is centred and the reading is 0.0°.
Can it check that something is vertical?
Yes. Hold the phone's side flat against a post or door frame, standing upright, and it reads how far it leans from vertical.
Is it as good as a real spirit level?
For picture frames and small shelves, once calibrated, yes. For long runs and building work, a long spirit level is more reliable because the phone is short.
