MB to GB
500 MB = 0.5 GB. Type in either box to convert both ways, in exact decimals.
The formula
500 MB = 0.5 GB
To convert megabytes to gigabytes, divide by 1,000.
Figure uses decimal units here: 1 GB = 1,000 MB, as storage makers and phone networks do. Some software counts in binary (1 GiB = 1,024 MiB), which makes the same drive look smaller; both kinds are in the app.
Common values
| Megabytes | Gigabytes |

Worked out by Figure's own converter: every value is exact.
How to use it
Type a number in the top box and the answer appears in the bottom one as you type; type in the bottom box to go the other way. The round button swaps the units, the unit names open every other unit, and the Every unit list shows the same amount in all of them. Sums work in the boxes too. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account.
Good for:
- Phone data plans and usage
- File sizes and upload limits
- Storage, memory cards and cloud space
- Download sizes
Questions
How many MB are in a GB?
In decimal units there are exactly 1,000 MB in 1 GB. In binary units there are 1,024 MiB in 1 GiB.
Is 1 GB 1,000 MB or 1,024 MB?
In decimal units, used by drive makers and networks, 1 GB is 1,000 MB. In binary units 1 GiB is 1,024 MiB. Windows labels binary sizes as GB, which is why the numbers differ.
