How to use it
Type a number in the top box and the answer appears in the bottom one as you type; type in the bottom box to go the other way. The round button swaps the units, the unit names open every other unit, and the Every unit list shows the same amount in all of them. Sums work in the boxes too. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account.
Good for:
- Comparing cars from US, UK and European reviews
- Working out fuel costs for a trip
- Checking a car's trip computer against the brochure
- Choosing between two cars
Questions
Why are UK and US mpg different?
A UK gallon (4.54609 L) is bigger than a US gallon (3.785411784 L), so the same car shows a higher mpg figure in the UK.
Is lower L/100 km better?
Yes. L/100 km is fuel used per distance, so lower is better; mpg is distance per fuel, so higher is better.
