Delay the prompt until the visitor has enough context, say why it is appearing and offer one useful action. A close button is part of the design.
Three checks before publishing
Timing Does the visitor have a reason to see this now?
Message Is the value obvious without exaggerated urgency?
Exit Can someone dismiss it without losing their place?
