About Hue Lab

  
Hue Lab is a free colour palette generator. Generate harmonious palettes with the spacebar, lock the colours you want to keep, check WCAG contrast, simulate colour blindness, build gradients and export to CSS, JSON or SVG. Hue Lab Pro adds palettes from photos, Tailwind and SCSS export and unlimited saves.

  
How do I generate a palette?
Press the spacebar or tap Generate. Lock any colour you like and only the unlocked ones change. Pick a method such as analogous, triadic or monochrome.

  
Can I make a palette from a photo?
Yes, with Hue Lab Pro, and you can try it a few times free first. Open From image, choose a photo and Hue Lab extracts its main colours, which you can open in the generator. The photo never leaves your device.

  
Does it check accessibility?
The contrast checker shows the WCAG ratio for any text and background pair and can nudge text to pass AA. You can also preview the palette under protanopia, deuteranopia, tritanopia and achromatopsia.

  
What export formats are there?
CSS variables, a CSS gradient, JSON, SVG and Figma text, plus a share link, a palette strip image and a share card. Tailwind and SCSS export come with Hue Lab Pro.

  
Where are saved palettes stored?
Only in this browser. There is no account. Save up to 10 palettes for free, or unlimited with Hue Lab Pro. Use Back up in Settings to save your library to a file.

  
Is Hue Lab free?
Yes. The generator, contrast checker, colour blindness preview, gradients, 10 saved palettes and CSS, JSON and SVG export are free, with no ads and no account. Hue Lab Pro is an optional one-time upgrade ($2.99) that adds unlimited saves, Tailwind and SCSS export and palettes from photos.
