Checked as you type, on this device. It isn't saved and is cleared when you leave.

Tap Check to look it up in Have I Been Pwned's list of hundreds of millions of leaked passwords. Only the first 5 characters of its SHA-1 hash are sent, never the password.

    Five rules for strong passwords

    1. Length beats tricks.Four or more random words, or 16+ random characters. Swapping a for @ adds almost nothing.
    2. One password per site.Reuse is how one leak opens every account.
    3. Let a password manager remember them.Your phone or browser has one built in.
    4. Turn on two-step sign-in.Use a passkey or an authenticator app where you can.
    5. Skip names, dates and patterns.Birthdays, pets, teams and qwerty are tried first.

    What it does

Sixteen random characters from 87 letters, numbers and symbols give about 102 bits of entropy, enough that no one can guess it by trying combinations. Many security guides use 16 as the sensible minimum for a random password.

If a site rejects symbols, turn them off: 16 letters and numbers still give over 90 bits. Use every type keeps at least one of each kind, for sites that require it.

    How to use it

    1. A 16-character password is ready at the top.
    2. Change the character types under Options if a site has rules.
    3. Tap Copy and save it in your password manager.

Passwords are made on this device and are never saved, sent or kept in a history. Only your settings are remembered.

    Good for

    • Sites with a 16-character maximum
    • Wi-Fi, router and device admin passwords
    • Work accounts with a 16-character policy
    • Any account where you want a strong, shorter password

    Questions

Is a 16-character password strong enough?

Yes, when it is random. With letters, numbers and symbols it has about 102 bits of entropy, far beyond what can be brute-forced.

    Can I make it longer?

Yes: drag the Length slider or type a number, up to 128. Longer is always stronger if the site allows it.
