    Password strength checker

Checked as you type, on this device. It isn't saved and is cleared when you leave.

    Has this password leaked?

Tap Check to look it up in Have I Been Pwned's list of hundreds of millions of leaked passwords. Only the first 5 characters of its SHA-1 hash are sent, never the password.

    Five rules for strong passwords

    1. Length beats tricks.Four or more random words, or 16+ random characters. Swapping a for @ adds almost nothing.
    2. One password per site.Reuse is how one leak opens every account.
    3. Let a password manager remember them.Your phone or browser has one built in.
    4. Turn on two-step sign-in.Use a passkey or an authenticator app where you can.
    5. Skip names, dates and patterns.Birthdays, pets, teams and qwerty are tried first.

    What it does

People choose PINs badly: 1234, 1111, 0000 and birth years are so common that they are the first things anyone tries. A random PIN avoids that. With Skip easy PINs on, this generator also never picks sequences, repeats, years or dates.

A PIN is only safe where wrong tries are limited, such as a phone or bank card that locks after a few attempts. Use a password anywhere it can be guessed without a limit.

    How to use it

    1. Choose how many digits: 4, 6 or up to 12.
    2. Keep Skip easy PINs on.
    3. Tap Copy, or the arrows for another.

Passwords are made on this device and are never saved, sent or kept in a history. Only your settings are remembered.

    Good for

    • Phone and tablet lock screens
    • Bank and card PINs, where your bank lets you choose
    • Door entry codes, safes and alarms
    • Voicemail, SIM and app PINs

    Questions

How many digits should a PIN have?

Six where you can: a million combinations instead of ten thousand. Four is fine where the device locks after a few wrong tries.

What makes a PIN easy to guess?

Sequences like 1234, repeats like 1111 or 1212, years like 1990 and dates like 0412. These are the first ones people try, so this generator leaves them out.
