Protein and fiber

Track protein and fiber. Skip the calorie counting.

When appetite drops, the question changes from "am I eating too much?" to "am I eating enough of the right things?" That needs two or three numbers, not a food database.

Short answer

GLP-1 Companion tracks protein in grams and water in milliliters against goals you set, with fiber as an optional third number. There is no calorie counter and no barcode scanning. You tap quick-add buttons such as +10 g or +250 ml through the day, and the Journal shows each day's totals beside your shots and symptoms. Ask your prescriber or a dietitian what targets suit you.

Why protein gets the attention

People taking GLP-1 medicines are commonly advised to keep protein intake up, because eating less overall makes it easy to fall short, and clinicians often raise it in the context of preserving muscle during weight loss. Fiber and fluids come up for a different reason: constipation is a frequently reported side effect, and both are part of the usual first-line advice. The specific targets are individual. They depend on your size, health and kidney function, so get your numbers from your prescriber or a dietitian.

What a tracker can do is show you, honestly, how close you got.

How logging works

That is the whole method. It is approximate on purpose. Estimating to the nearest 10 grams every day is more useful than weighing food for a week and giving up.

Why there is no calorie counter

Calorie apps are built around eating less. On a GLP-1 medicine, appetite suppression already does that, and for some people careful calorie logging turns a helpful treatment into a daily audit. Leaving calories out keeps the focus on the two or three things you may need more of. If your clinician has asked you to track calories for a specific reason, use a dedicated app for that alongside this one.

Seeing intake next to symptoms

The Journal lists each day as one row: food noise, protein, water, and any symptom tags. Read down a fortnight and connections that are hard to feel day to day become visible. Constipation tagged on the days water sat near a liter. Fatigue in the week protein averaged half your goal. These are observations, not diagnoses, and they are exactly the kind of thing to raise at a review. The side-effect journal guide covers the symptom side.

When you cannot face food

Hitting a protein goal is hardest on the days nothing sounds appealing. The Meals screen has recipes filtered as low appetite, nausea-aware and protein-first, each showing its protein in grams, so you can pick something small that still counts. See the low-appetite meal planner guide, the small meal ideas and the free seven-day meal plan.

Apple Health

Apple Health access is optional. With Pro you can choose to write daily protein, water and fiber to Health so they sit with data from other apps. Nothing is shared unless you turn it on, and you can change the permission in iOS Settings.

Common questions

How much protein should I eat on a GLP-1?

That depends on you, and the app does not set it. Ask your prescriber or a registered dietitian for a target, then enter it as your goal.

Does the app count calories or macros?

No. It tracks protein, water and optional fiber only. There is no calorie total, carb or fat tracking, or food database.

Can I log exact amounts instead of +10 g?

The quick-add buttons are designed for speed. Tap them in combination to reach the amount you ate; the daily total is what the Journal keeps.

Is fiber tracking on by default?

No. It is an optional setting, because not everyone needs a third number. The default goal is 25 g once enabled.

Does it sync with MyFitnessPal or similar?

There is no direct link. Pro can write protein, water and fiber to Apple Health, which many nutrition apps can read.
