Gridwork template
Timesheet template
Type when you started and finished each day and how long your break was. The template works out the hours worked, rounded to two places, and the pay at the hourly rate at the top, with the week’s totals.
What’s in it
The template opens with example numbers you can type over. Here’s the first sheet as it opens:
| A | B | C | D | E | F | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Hourly rate | $22.00 | ||||
| 2 | Day | Start | Finish | Break (min) | Hours | Pay |
| 3 | Monday | 09:00 | 17:30 | 30 | 8.00 | $176.00 |
| 4 | Tuesday | 09:00 | 17:30 | 30 | 8.00 | $176.00 |
| 5 | Wednesday | 09:00 | 17:30 | 30 | 8.00 | $176.00 |
| 6 | Thursday | 09:00 | 17:30 | 30 | 8.00 | $176.00 |
| 7 | Friday | 09:00 | 15:30 | 30 | 6.00 | $132.00 |
| 8 | Week | 38.00 | $836.00 |
The formulas it uses
- E3:
=ROUND((C3-B3)*24-D3/60,2)gives 8.00. ROUND: rounds to a number of digits. - F3:
=E3*$B$1gives $176.00. - E8:
=SUM(E3:E7)gives 38.00. SUM: adds the numbers.
Tips
- Times are fractions of a day in a spreadsheet, so (finish − start) × 24 gives hours.
- Type times as 9:00 or 17:30; 5:30 pm works too.
- For a job across midnight, add 1 to the finish time: =(C3+1-B3)*24.
Questions
Why multiply by 24?
Spreadsheets store times as fractions of a day, so finish minus start is a fraction; multiplying by 24 turns it into hours, then the break is taken off in hours.
Can I add overtime?
Add a column with =MAX(0,E3-8) for hours over eight a day, and pay it at its own rate.
Can I open it in Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes: in Gridwork, More then Save as Excel (.xlsx) keeps the formulas. It’s free, with no account, and the file stays on your device until you save it.
