The job Cloak replaces
Many AI questions are tiny: a command, an error, a rewrite, a syntax check, a quick explanation. Opening a browser tab or a large AI workspace can feel heavier than the question deserves.
Cloak gives those moments a small, summonable surface. Press Command Shift Space, ask the question, use the answer, and get back to work.
Who it is for
Developers, writers, builders and terminal-minded Mac users who want quick answers from a keyboard-first utility.
Why not a generic chat app?
Generic chat apps are better for long sessions. Cloak is intentionally smaller: fast prompts, provider choice and a clear boundary.
What makes it different
Provider choice is visible
Use Apple Intelligence or local Llama when you want local prompts. Choose Claude, OpenAI or Gemini with your own key when the cloud model is the right tool.
The interface stays small
Cloak is designed for short prompts and quick exits, not for turning every question into another workspace.
No telemetry layer
Cloak does not add Yuzool accounts, analytics or usage tracking. Cloud model requests only happen when you choose a cloud provider.
Agents for coding workflows
The Agents panel can dispatch Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and Cursor Agent in parallel from a project folder when you want coding-agent work to run side by side.
Data, price and support
Cloud API keys are stored in macOS Keychain. Local providers stay local. Cloak is a one-time $19 purchase through Polar, with direct Yuzool support.
When Cloak is not the right fit
If you want long research sessions, file-heavy conversations, persistent project memory or a full productivity launcher, a broader AI app may be better. Cloak is for the fast, terminal-shaped AI moment.
Choosing a model for the job
| Provider in Cloak | Runs | Good for | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Intelligence | On your Mac | Quick questions, rewriting, summaries | Free on supported Macs |
| Local Llama via MLX | On your Mac | Private work, offline use | Free; uses memory and disk |
| Claude, OpenAI or Gemini | The provider's servers | Harder reasoning and long context | Your own API key, billed by the provider |
Switch with a slash command: /apple, /llama, /claude, /openai or /gemini. Anything sent to a cloud provider leaves your Mac and is covered by that provider's terms, so keep confidential material on the on-device options.
The Agents panel
From version 3.1, Cloak can dispatch coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and Cursor Agent against a project folder, each in its own Terminal window, running in parallel, and notify you when each finishes. You need those tools installed and set up yourself. Review what an agent changes before committing it.
Practical details
- Press ⌘⇧Space from any app; Esc puts it away.
- API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain. There is no account and no telemetry.
- Requires macOS 26 or later.
- $19 as a one-time purchase.
What it is not
Cloak is a keyboard-first assistant window, not a replacement for your terminal or editor, and it does not include model usage: cloud providers bill you directly.
Everyday uses
- Explain a command before you run it, or ask for the command that does what you describe.
- Rewrite a paragraph you have copied from an email or document.
- Summarise a long error log or a block of pasted text.
- Draft a commit message, a reply or a regular expression.
- Ask a quick question without leaving the app you are in.
Read any command an assistant suggests before running it, especially anything that deletes, overwrites or uses sudo. Models make confident mistakes, and the terminal does exactly what it is told.
Choosing between on-device and cloud
A sensible default is Apple Intelligence or a local model for everyday questions and anything confidential, switching to a cloud model only when a task needs more reasoning than the local one manages. Because Cloak keeps the switch to one slash command, you can make that choice per question instead of per app.
Questions people ask
Do I need an API key?
Not for Apple Intelligence or a local model. Cloud providers need your own key.
Does it work offline?
With the on-device options, yes. Cloud providers need a connection.
Is my text sent anywhere?
Only when you choose a cloud provider. On-device options keep it on your Mac.
Is it a subscription?
No. Cloak is $19 once. Any cloud model usage is billed separately by that provider.
