Mental Math Games
Quick Sums: is the sum right? Tap ✓ or ✗ against the clock. From adding within ten up to times tables, division and three-number sums.
Six maths games
Brainbay has six bite-size maths games: Quick Sums (true or false?), Make the Number (pick cards that make the target), Bigger or Smaller (fractions, decimals, percentages), Balance Scales (work out what weighs what), Number Line (tap where a number goes) and Change Due (shop maths). All of them adapt: two right in a row steps you up a level, one wrong steps you down.
Tips for faster mental maths
- Round and adjust: 49 + 36 is 50 + 36 − 1.
- Use doubles: 7 × 8 is double 7 × 4.
- For "is it right?" questions, check the last digit first: 7 × 8 can't end in 4.
- Wrong answers in Quick Sums are near misses, so look carefully at the tens.
How to play
- A sum appears with an answer.
- Tap ✓ if it's right, ✗ if it's wrong.
- Keep a streak going for bonus points.
Scoring and levels
You have 60 seconds. Every right answer scores, and answers in a row score more. Two right in a row step you up a level; a wrong one steps you down, so it stays a stretch without getting stuck. Every game shows a short demo before you start, and your last ten scores are on the result screen.
In everyday life
Mental maths is the skill you use for splitting a bill, checking change, working out a discount or estimating whether something will fit. Quick estimates and near-miss checking are the habits that make it feel easy.
Questions
Are these good for children?
The early levels are simple adding and subtracting, so children can play; the levels rise with them.
Can I use the keyboard?
Yes: ← for right and → for wrong in Quick Sums.
