A free envelope budget planner that stays on your device

Plan each month by giving your income a job, then log spending against envelopes to see what is left. Everything is saved in this browser only: no account, no bank connection, nothing uploaded.

How to budget with envelopes

  1. Start with income. Add what you expect to earn this month.
  2. Give every unit a job. Put amounts into envelopes until "left to assign" reaches zero. Savings is an envelope too.
  3. Log spending as it happens. Each purchase comes out of an envelope. Ten seconds at the till is enough.
  4. When an envelope runs dry, stop spending there, or move money from another envelope by changing the budgets. The total stays honest.
  5. Next month, your envelopes and amounts carry over as a starting point. Adjust and repeat.

A starting split

A common rule of thumb is 50/30/20: about half of take-home pay on needs, 30% on wants and 20% on savings and debt. Treat it as a first draft, not a rule; rent alone takes more than half of income in many cities.

Questions

Why no bank connection?

Typing each purchase is the point: it makes you notice spending, which is most of what a budget does. It also means no one else sees your accounts. Your data stays in this browser.

Can I see last month?

Yes. Use the arrows beside the month. Each month keeps its own budget and transactions.

How do I move it to another device?

Use Back up to save a file and Restore on the other device. Export CSV gives you a spreadsheet of transactions.
