Gridwork template
Habit tracker spreadsheet template
Each row is a habit and each column a day, with a checkbox to tick. The Done column counts the ticks with COUNTIF and shows them as a share of the week, coloured from red to green.
What’s in it
The template opens with example numbers you can type over. Here’s the first sheet as it opens:
| A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Habit | Mon | Tue | Wed | Thu | Fri | Sat | Sun | Done |
| 2 | Walk 30 minutes | ☑ | ☑ | ☐ | ☑ | ☑ | ☐ | ☑ | 71% |
| 3 | Read 20 pages | ☑ | ☐ | ☑ | ☑ | ☐ | ☑ | ☑ | 71% |
| 4 | Drink water | ☑ | ☑ | ☑ | ☑ | ☑ | ☑ | ☐ | 86% |
| 5 | No phone in bed | ☐ | ☑ | ☐ | ☐ | ☑ | ☑ | ☑ | 57% |
| 6 | This week | 71% |
The formulas it uses
- I2:
=COUNTIF(B2:H2,TRUE)/7gives 71%. COUNTIF: how many cells match. - I6:
=AVERAGE(I2:I5)gives 71%. AVERAGE: the average of the numbers.
Tips
- Start with three or four habits: a short list you keep beats a long one you abandon.
- Duplicate the sheet each week to keep a history.
- Add a habit by typing it in a new row and filling the Done formula down.
Questions
How is the Done column worked out?
COUNTIF(B2:H2, TRUE) counts the ticked days and dividing by 7 shows it as a share of the week. The colour scale goes from red for few ticks to green for many.
Can I track a month instead of a week?
Insert columns for the extra days and change the 7 in the Done formula to the number of days.
Can I open it in Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes: in Gridwork, More then Save as Excel (.xlsx) keeps the formulas. It’s free, with no account, and the file stays on your device until you save it.
