Neon Nibbler
A free maze-chase arcade game with a neon glow. Steer Nib through the maze, eat every spark, and stay one corner ahead of four Glitches that each hunt in their own way. Grab a power cell and the chase flips. It runs in your browser on phone, tablet and desktop, with no ads, no sign-up and nothing to install.
How to play
- Eat every spark in the maze to clear it. Each spark is 10 points.
- Avoid the Glitches. Touching one costs a life. You start with three.
- Grab a power cell (the four big pulsing dots) and the Glitches turn blue and run. Catch them while they flash for big points, then their eyes race home to the pen.
- Eat the fruit that appears twice in every maze for a bonus.
- Use the tunnels. They wrap to the other side, and Glitches slow down inside them.
Meet the Glitches
| Glitch | Looks like | How it hunts |
|---|---|---|
| Blaze | A spinning red spark | Heads straight for you, and speeds up when few sparks are left. |
| Prism | A pink diamond | Aims a few tiles ahead of you to cut you off. |
| Cubit | A cyan hexagon | Works with Blaze to come at you from the other side. |
| Wisp | An orange orb with a moon | Chases from far away, then loses its nerve up close. |
Every so often the Glitches stop chasing and wander back to their own corners for a few seconds. Use that breather to clear a tricky area.
Scoring
| What | Points |
|---|---|
| Spark | 10 |
| Power cell | 50 |
| Glitches caught in one power-up | 200, 400, 800, 1,600 |
| Fruit | 100 (berry) up to 5,000 (crown) as the levels go on |
| Extra life | At 10,000 points, then every 20,000 |
Three mazes
The levels cycle through three original mazes: Circuit with side tunnels, Hive with tunnels at the top and bottom, and Quad, four rooms around a small pen. Every level the Glitches get a little faster and the power cells wear off sooner.
Tips
- Turn early. Your next turn is remembered, so swipe or press just before the corner and Nib takes it cleanly.
- Save the power cells. Eat one when several Glitches are close, not when the maze is quiet.
- Clear the long corridors first. The last few sparks in dead-end-looking corners are where you get trapped.
- Lead them into tunnels. Glitches crawl through tunnels, so they are a safe escape.
Questions
Is Neon Nibbler free?
Yes. The whole game is free, with no ads, no account and no in-app purchases.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Swipe anywhere on the maze to steer, or use the on-screen pad below it. Add it to your Home Screen to open it like an app. It also works with a keyboard or a game controller.
Are my high scores saved?
Your top five scores are kept in this browser on this device. Clearing site data or private browsing removes them.
Is this a copy of an old arcade game?
No. The maze-chase idea is a classic arcade genre, but Neon Nibbler's mazes, characters, art and sounds are all original.
