About Wordbay
A new English word every day for people who love language. Wordbay has 1,006 words chosen for grown-ups, not beginners: words like petrichor, sanguine, sprezzatura and kakistocracy, in three levels (Everyday, Well-read and Advanced) and 24 topics, from Emotions and Work to Words you didn't know had a name, Commonly confused and Often misused. Each word is said aloud in a British or American voice, with an easy respelling and IPA, a plain meaning, two example sentences you can hear, similar words and opposites, and where it comes from. Swipe through today's words on a full-screen card in the theme you like, then practise for a minute: pick the meaning, fill the gap, hear it and spell it, which-one-fits for confusable pairs and a 60-second Word Sprint. Spaced repetition brings each word back just before you'd forget it, and a word only counts as mastered once you've recalled it, not just recognised it.
