Easy baby blanket knitting pattern (free, 2 sizes)
A soft garter-stitch blanket framed in seed stitch: every row is knit, the border is the only thing to watch, and it lies flat from the first wash. It’s a beginner pattern of about 30 hours, and it teaches garter stitch, seed stitch borders, working a big piece flat. Follow it below, or open it in Stitchbay to count it row by row.
You’ll need
- 700 m (766 yd) for Pram, 1150 m (1258 yd) for Cot of medium weight yarn (Worsted), washable wool, cotton or a soft acrylic. Choose a yarn you can put in the washing machine.
- 5 mm (US 8) needles: 80 cm circular needle (worked flat: the cable holds the weight)
- Tapestry needle
- Gauge: 18 stitches and 36 rows to 10 cm (4 in) in garter stitch
Sizes: Pram (About 60 × 70 cm), Cot (About 75 × 95 cm). Numbers for the bigger sizes are in brackets: cast on 80 (88, 96) means 80 for the first size, 88 for the second, 96 for the third.
Before you start
The first and last 5 stitches of every row are the seed-stitch border; everything between is knit.
Gauge isn't critical, but a looser gauge uses more yarn.
