You’ll need

  • 28 m (31 yd) of medium weight yarn (Worsted), acrylic, wool or cotton. About 28 m a square, so about 1,350 m for the 48-square blanket.
  • a 5 mm (US H-8) hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Gauge: Rounds 1–2 measure about 6 cm across

Size: Each square about 15 cm (6 in); a blanket of 6 × 8 squares about 90 × 120 cm.

Before you start

The ch 3 at the start of each round counts as the first dc.

To change colour, fasten off at the end of a round and join the new colour in any corner space.

The blanket

Make 48 squares.

Lay them out 6 across and 8 down. Join them with right sides together: sl st through the back loops of both squares from corner to corner. Join all the rows one way, then all the columns the other way.

Border: join yarn in any corner space and work one round of granny clusters all the way round (3 dc in each space, and 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in each corner), then a round of sc in every stitch, with 3 sc in each corner.
