How to convert HEIC to JPG
iPhones save photos as HEIC to save space, but many websites, Windows apps, Android phones and upload forms do not accept it. JPG works everywhere.
- Add your HEIC photos: drop them on the box above, or press Choose HEIC images. Add as many as you like.
- JPG is already selected. Set the quality, and the background colour for any transparent areas.
- Each file converts straight away on your device. The list shows the size before and after.
- Press Download for one file, or Save all for a ZIP of them all (on a phone, Save all shares them so you can save to Photos).
HEIC vs JPG
| HEIC (HEIF) | JPG (JPEG) | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | iPhone and iPad camera photos | Photos |
| Transparency | Rarely used | No |
| Compression | Lossy, about half the size of a JPG of the same photo | Lossy: small files, some detail thrown away |
| Opens in | Apple devices; many websites, Windows apps and Android apps do not accept it | Everywhere: every phone, computer, website and upload form |
Good to know
- Safari reads HEIC itself. In other browsers a HEIC decoder loads automatically the first time; it runs on your device like everything else.
- Photos are turned the right way up, and the location and camera details are removed from the JPG.
- To have your iPhone save JPG from now on, choose Settings › Camera › Formats › Most Compatible.
- Nothing is uploaded. Your photos are read, converted and saved in this browser tab, and camera details and GPS location are not copied into the new file.
Questions
How do I convert HEIC to JPG on Windows?
Open this page in Chrome or Edge, add the HEIC files and save. Nothing needs installing, and the photos are not uploaded.
Will the JPG be bigger than the HEIC?
Usually yes, often about twice the size, because HEIC compresses better. Quality 85 to 90 keeps the look.
Are Live Photos kept?
The still photo is converted. The short video part of a Live Photo is not included.
