How to convert WebP to PNG
PNG is the safe choice when a WebP has a transparent background (stickers, logos, cut-out products) or when you want to edit it without further loss. Everything that opens images opens PNG.
- Add your WebP images: drop them on the box above, or press Choose WebP images. Add as many as you like.
- PNG is already selected. It is lossless, so there is no quality to set.
- Each file converts straight away on your device. The list shows the size before and after.
- Press Download for one file, or Save all for a ZIP of them all (on a phone, Save all shares them so you can save to Photos).
WebP vs PNG
| WebP | PNG | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Images on websites | Screenshots, logos, text and graphics |
| Transparency | Yes | Yes |
| Compression | Lossy or lossless, usually smaller than JPG and PNG | Lossless: exact pixels, larger files |
| Opens in | All current browsers; some older apps, Office versions and upload forms refuse it | Everywhere |
Good to know
- Transparency is kept exactly.
- PNG is lossless, so the result looks identical to the WebP, but it is usually bigger.
- Animated WebP files convert their first frame only.
- Nothing is uploaded. Your images are read, converted and saved in this browser tab, and camera details and GPS location are not copied into the new file.
Questions
Does WebP to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. Transparent and semi-transparent pixels are kept as they are.
Why is the PNG bigger than the WebP?
WebP is designed to be small; PNG stores every pixel exactly. The picture is the same.
Should I choose PNG or JPG?
PNG for graphics, logos and anything transparent. JPG for photos, where it is much smaller.
