How to convert AVIF to PNG
Convert AVIF to PNG to keep transparency and every pixel exactly, for editing or for apps that do not open AVIF.
- Add your AVIF images: drop them on the box above, or press Choose AVIF images. Add as many as you like.
- PNG is already selected. It is lossless, so there is no quality to set.
- Each file converts straight away on your device. The list shows the size before and after.
- Press Download for one file, or Save all for a ZIP of them all (on a phone, Save all shares them so you can save to Photos).
AVIF vs PNG
| AVIF | PNG | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Images on websites, the smallest files | Screenshots, logos, text and graphics |
| Transparency | Yes | Yes |
| Compression | Lossy or lossless, often smaller than WebP | Lossless: exact pixels, larger files |
| Opens in | Current browsers; many apps and upload forms cannot open it yet | Everywhere |
Good to know
- Transparency is kept.
- Your browser decodes the AVIF: current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (16 and later) can.
- PNG files are much bigger than AVIF files of the same picture.
- Nothing is uploaded. Your images are read, converted and saved in this browser tab, and camera details and GPS location are not copied into the new file.
