How to convert HEIC to PNG
Convert iPhone HEIC photos to PNG when an editor or app needs a lossless copy to work on. For sharing and uploading, JPG is smaller.
- Add your HEIC photos: drop them on the box above, or press Choose HEIC images. Add as many as you like.
- PNG is already selected. It is lossless, so there is no quality to set.
- Each file converts straight away on your device. The list shows the size before and after.
- Press Download for one file, or Save all for a ZIP of them all (on a phone, Save all shares them so you can save to Photos).
HEIC vs PNG
| HEIC (HEIF) | PNG | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | iPhone and iPad camera photos | Screenshots, logos, text and graphics |
| Transparency | Rarely used | Yes |
| Compression | Lossy, about half the size of a JPG of the same photo | Lossless: exact pixels, larger files |
| Opens in | Apple devices; many websites, Windows apps and Android apps do not accept it | Everywhere |
Good to know
- Safari reads HEIC itself. In other browsers a HEIC decoder loads automatically the first time; it runs on your device.
- PNG files of photos are large, often several times the size of the HEIC.
- Location and camera details are removed, and photos are turned the right way up.
- Nothing is uploaded. Your photos are read, converted and saved in this browser tab, and camera details and GPS location are not copied into the new file.
